Jo Harrop sings the Anita O’Day Songbook

    Jo Harrop – vocals

    Harry Sankey – guitar

    Steve Brown – drums

    Adam King – double bass

    Alex Hitchcock – tenor saxophone

Stunning jazz vocalist Jo Harrop sings material from the great American Anita O’Day, choosing songs from her recordings on Verve.  Songs have been selected from Anita’s albums such as ‘Anita Sings the Winners’, ‘Pick Yourself Up’ and ‘Anita Swings Cole Porter and Rogers & Hart’ which featured arrangements from jazz royalty Oscar Peterson, Barney Kessel and the Billy May Orchestra, so expect to hear classics such as ‘Taking A Chance On Love’, ‘I’ve Got The World On A String’ and ‘We’ll Be Together Again’.

Jo says ‘A self confessed song stylist Anita O’Day was one of the coolest jazz vocalists on the jazz singers scene, but also had a warmth and intimacy to her voice, which reflected her often turbulent journey through life. The story of Anita O’Day and how her life and musical career intertwined, is what draws me to her as an artist, music was her only constant throughout her life. I have selected some of the finest songs from Anita’s repertoire, capturing the gutsy spirit, and tender side, of the one also known as The Jezebel Of Jazz’.

With Jo’s music described as retro soul and a voice that’s been variously likened to dark velvet and honeyed chocolate, all matched to a sunny, upbeat personality, she will make it an evening not to be missed.

Jo Harrop is joined by some of the UK’s finest Jazz musicians, as they swing their way through the songbook of, Anita O’Day.
