'Guilty Pleasures' Louise Cookman + Pete Long’s Quintet
Louise Cookman – vocals
Pete Long – clarinet/sax
Denny Ilett – guitar
Chris Ingham – piano
Dave Chamberlain – double bass
George Double – drums
The vocalist with the Pasadena Roof Orchestra for over five years, Louise has been a regular special guest singer on Big Band Special on BBC Radio 2 and over the past few years has had the pleasure of touring the UK with the BBC Big Band, as well as with The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK and Michael Law’s Piccadilly Dance Orchestra. Including a full set of freshly commissioned arrangements by Peter Long, ‘Guilty Pleasures’ sets Louise and her favourite songs in a variety of contexts designed to at once excite, entertain, and bring a warm glow of nostalgia for the jazz infused, glitzy world of TV showbiz which accompanied her early years. Not only does Louise take us on a whistle-stop tour of the world of song, but we are also given a huge variety of musical colour, taking in the very brightest ShowTime swing, the brooding ballads and lush Bossa novas. She also featured recently on “Len Goodman’s Dancing Feet” and “Len Goodman’s Dance Band Days”, both for BBC4 television.
Pete Long the leader of the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra and Echo’s of Ellington Orchestra
“Girl singers simply do not sound or look like this anymore, which is why she is every big band leader’s dream!” – Jay Craig, BBC Big Band, Syd Lawrence Orchestra
