Sarah Moule sings  ‘The Johnny Mercer Songbook’

    Sarah Moule – vocal

    Simon Wallace  – piano

    Alec Dankworth – double bass

    Paul Robinson – drums

Johnny Mercer wrote lyrics for some of the greatest songs in the Great American Songbook – Come Rain or Come Shine, Moon River, One For My Baby (And One More For The Road )  That Old Black Magic, Skylark and Blues In The Night to name just a few.

Sarah Moule is a lyric-led singer and ‘the perfect storyteller’ according to Clive Davis of The Times and made an album of songs with lyrics half by Mercer and half by Fran Landesman. The two lyricists, from different generations admired each other’s work and Mercer’s slangy vernacular perfectly sits alongside Landesman’s hip look at contemporary life. In this collection she rekindles her love of Mercer’s writing alongside a fabulous trio of British musicians led by her husband and Landesman’s long-time collaborator, Simon Wallace.

Sarah Moule for six years was featured vocalist with the John Wilson Orchestra, performing for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her solo recording career includes five highly acclaimed albums of songs by the late great lyricist Fran Landesman and composer Simon Wallace the most recent Stormy Emotions, was released to stellar reviews and featured in four Best of 2021 critic’s lists. She has performed at the Southbank Centre, Ronnie Scott’s, on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night Is Music Night and all over the UK. Simon Wallace has had a 45-year international career as a composer, pianist, musical director, and producer. For 30 years he worked with Simon Brint composing music for some of Britain’s most popular TV shows including French & Saunders, Fry & Laurie and Absolutely Fabulous.

Alec Dankworth is one of the finest bassists in Europe and drummer Paul Robinson toured with Nina Simone for 18 years.
